48th Annual Roycroft Summer Festival: This Weekend!

The 48th annual Roycroft Artisan Summer Festival will be held on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday June 30, 2024.

The Roycroft Summer Festival runs from 10 a.m until 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Classic Rink, located at 41 Riley Street in the Village of East Aurora. The Classic Rink is an open air roofed venue that provides protection from elements and ensures a comfortable experience for attendees that includes ample parking. With the festival centrally located in the village, patrons can park once and take advantage of everything East Aurora has to offer, including Main Street shops and restaurants.

Visitors to the Festival will experience fine art and high craft in wood, metal, fabric, jewelry, clay, glass, book arts, prints, drawing, painting, and photography. The work is created by fine artists and craftspeople, many of whom have gone through a rigorous jurying process. Roycrofters at Large Artisans have earned the right to use the “double R” mark of the Roycroft Renaissance and represent the very strongest in quality workmanship and design.

In addition to over 30 Juried Roycroft Artisans and Masters, this year’s festival also includes a variety of non-juried artists and Roycroft Emerging Artists fellows. The Emerging Artists program provides opportunities for rising local artists who exhibit a quality of work in keeping with the Roycroft standards in their chosen mediums and advances RALA’s express mission to serve as an organization to further the revitalization and evolution of the Arts & Crafts Movement, in both craft and fine art. This year's fellows include Lee Williams of Pugbully Studio, photography; Jennifer Hanson, acrylic painting; Barbara Fox, oil painting and Ed Hallborg, 2-D sculpture.

The 2024 Goodie Box will be available for viewing at the start of festival and sales of raffle will open. The annual Goodie Box is a RALA tradition for over 20 years, and is the backbone of its non-profit fund-raising initiatives. The centerpiece of this year’s box is a Copper Jewelry Box by Master Metalsmith Ronald VanOstrand.

The design features chased ginkgos and a tooled leather interior designed by new Roycroft Artisan in Leather Tom Ciminelli. Together with this piece, the 2024 Goodie Box contains additional items created by Roycroft Artisans and Master Artisans valued at over $9,000 - a new record. The total contents will be revealed at the Summer Festival on June 29. Tickets are sold throughout the year with a final drawing in February 2025 at the 38th National Arts and Crafts Conference, at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. The winner need not be present.

There is a $5.00 admission charge for adults, free for children. Entry for our Friends or Patron membership is free of charge. The event will offer local food by the Blue Eyed Baker and local small batch mead tasting by Bee Spit Meadery.

Commemorative Festival posters featuring vintage art by Master CJ Hurley and memberships will go on sale beginning Saturday at 10 am.

We will be joined for live art demonstrations by Master Linda Nagel Meyer on Saturday and Artisan Nancy Asmus on Sunday. Master Susan Cudaback will be demonstrating lampglass work in her booth throughout both days of the festival.
