The Roycroft Inn will host Roycroft Master Photographer Peter Potter as exhibiting artist for the East Aurora Spring Artwalk 2024 on Friday, May 10, 2024.
Roycroft Master Peter Potter has been a student of photography from a young age. “Ever since I was a child, I was fascinated with the process,” he says. “I loved to use the darkroom and develop film.”
Now utilizing digital photography, Potter’s unique multiple-image process presents his scenes more like an observer would actually experience it. He captures at least five images of a landscape or architectural scene, one brighter than the next. Using computer editing software, he combines multiple —usually three—of the image, rendering images that excite and engage.

He has found inspiration in the work of photographer Wilbur H. Porterfield, and painters Rix Jennings and Charles Burchfield. “I love to try to stay in Charles Burchfield’s palate,” Potter says. “Gray and browns. Austere scenes without much color.” After organizers selected his images of Knox Farm State Park to promote the first Borderland Music Festival in East Aurora, they asked him to capture the now-annual event. Instead of landscapes and architecture, he captures the enthusiasm of performers and concert-goers. “It’s quite different,” Potter says, “but I really enjoy doing it.”
Potter achieved Artisan status in 2015, and was approved as a Master in 2020. He currently serves as the president of our organization, and has championed the expansion of the Roycroft Artisan culture to include artists working in Fine Art and conceptual media, in keeping with the organization’s mission to evolve and foster talent within the Arts & Crafts Movement.
He has exhibited locally and internationally, including a solo exhibition entitled "F1 GP du Canada" at Galerie Naomi in Montreal. He lectures on photo pictorialism and Arts & Crafts History across the nation, having delivered notable presentations of "The Elevation of Photography from a Documentary Craft to a Fine Art" at the 36th Annual Arts and Crafts Conference in Ashveville, North Carolina and "Ruskin's Use of Daguerreotypes" at The Ruskin Art Club of Los Angeles in 2019.
Potter will exhibit on the peristyle at The Roycroft Inn as part of the Spring Artwalk on Friday, May 10, 4 pm - 9 pm, with selections of new and familiar work of note.
The East Aurora Spring Artwalk 2024 includes 19 venues and over 50 exhibiting artists and will be held 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Complimentary trolley service connects the various participating art venues.
