Roycroft Emerging Artists Program Accepting Applications

Applications are being accepted for the 2024 Roycroft Emerging Artists cohort. The Emerging Artists Program, now in its third year, provides opportunities for rising local artists who exhibit a quality of work in keeping with the Roycroft Standards in their chosen mediums seeking new opportunities for professional advancement and exhibition.

RALA Emerging Artists receive individual assistance, support and a subsidized booth fee for the Roycroft Summer Festival, feedback and critique from established Roycroft Artisans and fast tracked opportunities for mentorship within the organization, the first step to juried artisan membership. The program is designed to give those artists and artisans producing high quality of work the opportunity to see if a path to juried status exists, and highlight areas where specific improvement could be cultivated in order to pursue membership.

Artists with an established body of work that shows an emerging language or cohesive style that shows attention to detail, pride in work and grasp of fit and finish practices with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in their chosen mediums that show a high degree of skill rooted in traditional techniques are encouraged to apply.

This program connects the Roycroft with new up and coming artists and artisans who exemplify the fundamental values of the Arts & Crafts movement and are interested in advancement of an emerging career with a possible future within the Arts & Crafts movement. While all are encouraged to apply, first priority is given to applicants that have not previously shown or exhibited their work in a major festival show setting or (solo) gallery environment, as the goal is to foster new emerging talent.

Examples of non-traditional execution of traditional skills and crafts are welcome, and artisans showing fine application are emphasized. Four cohorts will be chosen. Previous Artisan cohorts highlighted work in oil painting, fiber, pottery, fine art sculpture, fabric and leather.

To apply, submit a completed application by May 14, 2024.

Emerging Artists will be notified of acceptance by May 20 and will be included in the the 2024 Roycroft Summer Festival on June 29 & 30 at the Classic Rink on Riley Street in East Aurora.

The Roycrofters At Large Association was founded in 1976 with the mission to keep the Arts & Crafts Movement alive guided by principles set forth by founder Elbert Hubbard. Artisans proudly display the registered “double R mark” representing the quality of their work, and are the only modern working artists permitted to represent themselves as Roycrofters. More information can be found online at ralaweb.com and on social media at @roycroftartisans.
